The gala concert COLLIDING WAVES of new music by Estonian and Finnish composers will be held in Helsinki and will feature selected works from HELIjaKEEL concert season 2015/2016 and Saariaho festival held in Tallinn in February 2016. Most of the performers are among best musicians from Estonia: principal players from Tallinn Chamber Orchestra – Harry Traksmann (violin, Tallinn), Laur Eensalu (viola, Tallinn), Leho Karin (cello, Tallinn) and Olga Voronova (violin, Tallinn); Theodor Sink (cello, Tallinn); principal violinist from Estonian National Symphony Orchestra – Triin Ruubel (violin, Tallinn); Helena Tuuling (clarinet, Tallinn), principal flutist of Pärnu City Orchestra – Leonora Palu (flute, Pärnu), Kristi Mühling (kannel, Tallinn), Tammo Sumera (electronics, Tallinn), artistic director of Kammermuusikud – Diana Liiv (piano, Tallinn), Petri Piiparinen (percussion, Helsingi) and Jaanika Kuusik from Vox Clamantis (soprano, Tallinn). Special guest of the concert is Arianna Savall (soprano, Basel) who performes Arvo Pärt’s Two lullabies, dedicated to her parents Montserrat Figueras and Jordi Savall and Helena Tulve’s L’Équinoxe de l’âme, conducted by Jaan-Eik Tulve.
Among other works Petals by Kaija Saariaho, Göreme Echoes by Markku Klami and Piano Quintet by Jüri Reinvere will be played.
Many of Estonian performers and authors have a strong connection with Finland – Theodor Sink (cello), Merle Prangel-Silmato (mezzo-soprano), Kristi Mühling (kannel), Diana Liiv (piano), Petri Piiparinen (percussion) and composers Malle Maltis and Jüri Reinvere have studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
